Résumé

The contributions to this volume are concerned with the Roman law of antiquity in its broadest sense, covering both private and public law from the Roman Republic to the Byzantine era, including legal papyrology. They also examine the reception of Roman law in Western Europe and its colonies (specifically the Dutch East Indies) from the Middle Ages to the promulgation of the German Bürgerliche Gesetzbuch in 1900.
They reflect the wide interests of Professor Boudewijn Sirks, whom the volume honours on the occasion of his retirement and whose work and career have transcended frontiers and nations.

Jan Hallebeek ist Professor für Europäische Rechtsgeschichte an der Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Martin Schermaier ist Professor für Römisches und Bürgerliches Recht an der Rheinischen Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn. Prof. Dr. Roberto Fiori lehrt Römisches Recht an der Universität 'Tor Vergata' in Rom, Italien. Seine Forschung konzentriert sich auf archaisches Recht, klassisches Recht und die Geschichte des europäischen Privatrechts. Dr.
Roberto Fiori è professore di Diritto romano nell'Università di Roma . La sua ricerca è rivolta al diritto arcaico, al diritto classico, alla storia del diritto privato europeo. Jean-Pierre Coriat ist Professor für Römisches Recht an der Université Paris Panthéon-Assas (Paris II). Ernest Metzger ist Professor für Römisches Recht (Douglas Chair of Civil Law) an der University of Glasgow.
