What really happens inside a computer?Every program, image, calculation, and network connection ultimately becomes patterns of bits moving through a physical machine. Inside the Machine explores that journey from the simplest binary representation to the architecture of modern computing systems. Beginning with bits, number systems, integers, memory, endianness, floating-point and fixed-point arithmetic, the book builds a foundation for understanding how information is represented inside a computer.
From there, it moves into the processor itself: registers, instruction sets, machine code, execution pipelines, caches, memory hierarchies, buses, interrupts, boot processes, and persistent storage. The later chapters examine what happens when one processor is no longer enough.
