The Silent Voyager spacecraft was on its way to establish a colony on the planet LW-432. However, despite careful planning, even the best-thought-out plans can go awry. A mistake made by the person in charge of entering the coordinates of the destination planet into the computer sent the ship and its crew to an unknown region of space, far from any planet. The crew was now isolated from Earth and must survive a hostile alien race approaching them, with no means of defending themselves.
Captain John Marvin, a veteran astronaut, leads a crew attempting some form of escape from the aliens, all compounded by dwindling resources. With the help of the onboard computer, they tried to find a nearby habitable planet. At first, their efforts were in vain because behind a large, dense mass of interstellar dust was the planet they sought. After a long time, it was finally found, changing the ship's course there in search of shelter and resources, especially food and water.
In the end, the crew was rescued by an alien coming from the Andromeda Galaxy. But there was not enough, and some stayed behind and were killed.
