Résumé
When a house is no longer a home, they appear. The first time Stephanie saw the flayed man, he crawled out of her closet in the days before her family lost their home in the financial crisis. Years later, the flayed man reappeared in a painting, part of a series called Imaginary Houses. Now an anxious graduate student in art history, and convinced that the paintings hold answers about what she saw, Stephanie sets out to hunt down the other paintings in the series, along with more information on the artist, whose life has eerie parallels with her own.
Pursued by twisted beings through museums, galleries, archives, and abandoned houses, she slips into a new reality, one where doors appear in places they shouldn't, and floor plans seem to rewrite themselves on a whim. The flayed man and the others want something from Stephanie. All she wants is answers, but the price for them may be steeper than she is willing to pay.
