Résumé

In the 1950s, Edward Collins is a war scarred safari hunter in Nairobi when Arthur Hargreaves, a senior officer in the Game Department, offers him a six month contract to track down the organized gangs slaughtering elephants and rhinos across the northern territories, and discover who is arming them. With him is Walker, an American photographer determined to finally capture something true after a first expedition that nearly broke him.
Guiding them is Rashidi, an African tracker who reads spoor like scripture, and old Biko, the head porter whose vast knowledge of the wilderness has kept men alive where maps run out. The contract takes them into a country that has no patience for good intentions. A pack of wild dogs closes in on the column at dusk, forcing armed men to run for their lives. At a waterhole in the pale light of early morning, an African rock python bursts from the reeds and coils around a man before anyone can raise a rifle, its weight a slow and silent death until a knife finds the head by feel alone.
Then the driver ants come, a black tide pouring through camp in the night, fast enough to strip a man bare before he can find his boots. As the trail stretches deeper into the wilderness, Edward finds more than slaughtered elephants and rhinos. Every clue points to a conspiracy far greater than ordinary poachers, one protected by men with power, influence, and access to government weapons. Each step forward brings his party closer to an enemy determined to keep the truth buried, whatever the cost.
What begins as a contract to name the men behind the killing becomes a desperate race to uncover a conspiracy before those responsible can silence everyone who stands in their way. Fast paced, atmospheric and unrelenting from the first page, Hunting in Africa, Vol. II follows a safari hunter, a photographer, a tracker, and an old porter who has seen it all through fly country and dry riverbeds, past a stampede and a river that takes without warning, toward a final confrontation where the fate of one of Africa's last great elephant refuges hangs in the balance.
