Résumé
Crow is a bratty young adult who thinks everyone is trying to belittle him. Trying to find his place in his town, the largest in the plains, his adoptive father, Whisker, has entered him into an apprenticeship to be the next leader. While trying to help some town members, Crow falls down a tree and breaks his arm. His sister, Sparrow, believes that she is unequipped to help Crow, and tells him he will need to see Fern.
Fern lives in the forest, a two day journey away. As kids, the two met when Fern and her mentor, Clove, helped Crow's town during a particularly bad winter. Crow finds Fern annoying since she's a know-it-all, but also likes being able to use both arms. Out of shame, Crow sneaks out at night and travels to Fern's place on his own. When he arrives in the forest, Crow is attacked by a strange ghost. That no one but him seems to see.
Now inside Fern's house, Crow demands proper treatment for his arm. All while belittling Fern and her town. But, things get stranger the longer Crow stays with her. She's not that annoying, and the forest isn't that bad. But, he's not supposed to belong here. Right?
