Résumé
Humanity's prosperous future is long dead. From our failures rise the Hominin. Beings both distinct from and eerily similar to us. In a remote corner of the galaxy, an exiled Eques named Dorm locates his brother, Sapiens, on a war-torn planetoid. A strategically crucial battleground that could reshape the ongoing conflict between the Terran Republic and the Eques. Dorm delivers a family heirloom to his brother.
It holds much social clout in Eques society and could be used to influence politics on their home world. Dorm is swiftly arrested and scheduled for execution. Sapiens grapples with conflicting emotions. Dorm is an exile, a profligate, and was meant to be executed a long time ago. But after Sapien's father died, he isn't interested in losing more family. Meanwhile, Gabar, the leader of a separate military faction, mysteriously aids Dorm and Sapiens.
He is suffering through challenges of his own. He needs to live up to his grandfather's legacy, but resents his father's. He wants to be a respected leader, but current circumstances are making it a labor like no other. First things first, all three need to destroy the hilltop Republic base preventing them from taking any action at all. Unfortunately, they are forced to do it behind the back of their hesitant superior officer.
For the Eques, following the chain of command is law, so to save everyone they may need to become criminals.
