During an investigation into a school bus hijacking and bombing in Fredericksburg, Gavin Mahoney discovers that his ex-girlfriend has been hiding the existence of his biological son from him over the last six years. Once again, a developing bizarre crime spree appears to be all about him!Off to a rocky start as a parent, not only to a child he's never met, but to newborn Essie with his wife Deb, attempting to iron out his paternal rights with Shannon, and caught off guard, Gavin is critically wounded in a shooting that leaves him hospitalized, and Shannon murdered.
During his convalescence, he is called home to Sterling, Illinois, to attend his Abuelo's funeral. Being home has an odd effect on Gavin. Despite being at home among people who love him, he is haunted by events from his youth and years in the 82nd Army Airborne in Afghanistan. And when the evil seeking to hurt his child follows them...he and Deb learn that together they can face whatever demons they each need to fight...the hidden inner ones, as well as living, breathing ones, who seek to harm a small child just to hurt his father.
