His Last Drink

The day starts out as usual: banter with her husband Jake and their two teenage children, birdwatching before the kids go to school, breakfast with Jake, a kiss for her husband as he goes off to work, lunch with an old friend. Maybe she and her family are finally recovering from the school shooting that almost cost Jake his life. But then Jake stops answering his phone. No one can find him. No one knows where he is.
Time ticks by. What has happened? She doesn't know if she should be angry or scared. Was he kidnapped by ICE, captured by the school shooter who escaped prison, out on a bender, with another woman, hurt or lost somewhere in the brutal Sonoran Desert where they live, murdered by his crooked employer, or hurt by her old high school sweetheart who is back in town. So many possibilities and no leads. No one to help her as she searches frantically for Jake, hoping to find him before time runs out.
