Above and below, older powers take notice: a long-nosed sky-being pressing with patient weight, and the river's serpent-curve that loves to test ankles and pride.
Told in a slow burn of many voices, this supernatural thriller honors the discipline of ordinary days: wands that mark where water starts to lie, lamps kept lip-small, breath taught to walk the long path. Inspired by Nisg_a'a adaawak and the real 17th-century eruption, it's a story about help sized right, games played fairly with the river, and a people who bring their law home unbroken.
