Practice doesn't always make perfect... Maya Klosz has her whole life ahead of her,  She just graduated law school with flying colors and spent the last three onnths travelling through Europe.  She should be excited to finally launch her legal career.  Instead, her confidence is in tatters, undermined by a hasty critique from a law school professor and her own paralyzing fear of the courtroom. It's no wonder she feels out of her depth.
 Her decision to pursue a career in law came when she was only fourteen, inspired by an impulsive outburst from her mother.  Maya had no idea what she was signing up for.  Now, she's about to start a high-stakes clerkship at Prescott Howard, one of the most prestigious law firms in the city-if she can muster the courage to step into the elevator. Thrown headfirst into litigation-her worst nightmare-Maya finds herself handling the firm's family law practise, a job that no one else wants.
 Faced with demanding partners, impossible deadlines, difficult clients, faithless colleagues, and her own crushing doubts, she can't help but wonder if she's made the biggest mistake of her life.  Urged on by her family, friends, and the charismatic Justice Jack Conroy, Maya desperately tries to put on the face of a confident, capable professional. But how long can she keep up the facade?
