He has served most of his ministry in the Diocese of Waiapu and also spent time at the dioceses of Norwich and Lichfield in the UK. For nine years Bennett was ministry enabler for Hawkes Bay/Gisborne region - he helped establish the Hawke's Bay Rural Ministry Unit in the 1980s.
He writes and composes hymns, sings in a civic choir, is learning the Maori language and enjoys tramping. He is currently tutor in Rural Ministry Studies for the Ecumenical Institute for Distance Theological Studies, Christchurch.
