Gareth Steward thought he was going to be an English major, marry his college sweetheart Nick, and maybe manage a restaurant or work in retail after graduation. Instead, his favorite professor tells him he's got secret superpowers, and that he's meant for so much more than his simple college life. To survive, he'll need to attend the Garden, and forget all about his past, including Nick. But those who run the Garden are hiding their own agendas, and Gareth must learn the truth of what it means to be to more than ordinary.
In Volume 3, Gareth is learning more about the Garden and his new life as a Gifted. He is taking classes like Intro to Real History and Ballistic Basics, flirting with a classmate named Squall, and learning how to throw a punch. But underneath the Garden's shiny metal exterior is the knowledge that Gifteds lead dangerous lives, and that knowledge may lead to a more violent future for our hero - a future that Gareth does not want.
