In the Painted City of Chroma-Veneer, reality is fading. Only blood can make it permanent. Isola Baine is a Pigment-Hunter. In a world where buildings, skies, and people dissolve into translucent sketches if not constantly "touched up, " she ventures into the toxic Unpainted Wastelands to harvest the lethal fluids required for the city's paints. She creates vibrancy from death, even as the "Lead-Lung" slowly turns her own breath to poison.
Kaelen Voss is the Grand Censor. Known as the Solvent-Master, his very touch undoes creation. He is the executioner who wipes criminals from existence, stripping their color until they are nothing but invisible drafts. He is the city's most feared eraser, and he is hunting Isola. Rumor has it Isola possesses "Vantablack"-a forbidden pigment so deep it can swallow light and rewrite history. When Kaelen corners her, he expects to dissolve her like the others.
Instead, he discovers that his lethal touch has no effect on her. Isola isn't just a painter; she is the only "Original" thing left in a city of forgeries.
