Résumé

Frenchy: The Enigma of the Panhandle"No one will ever know who I am."In 1880, a woman with raven hair and "dancing blue eyes" stepped off a stagecoach into the raw, red dust of Mobeetie, Texas. She brought with her a trunk of silk dresses, an elite education she refused to explain, and a new name-Frenchy-christened by the rowdy shout of a Dodge City cowboy. Elizabeth was a woman of deliberate shadows.
Whether she was a runaway from a Louisiana convent or a survivor of the St. Louis burlesque stages, she traded her past for the untamed freedom of the Texas Panhandle. There, she met her match in Mickey "Mack" McCormick, a charming Irish gambler who dealt Three-Card Monte and lived by the code of the frontier. Together, they forged a life on the "steamy side" of Tascosa, the Cowboy Capital of the Plains.
Bound by a Sacred Word to never leave the town or each other, they weathered the highs of the gambling halls and the lows of the Great Typhoid Epidemic of 1886, where Frenchy became a reluctant saint, hauling life-saving water to the very neighbors who shunned her. But when the railroad bypassed Tascosa, the "booming" town began to dissolve back into the earth. One by one, the citizens fled, until only Frenchy remained-a lone sentinel keeping a thirty-year vigil over the man she loved and the secrets she carried.
Even when long-lost family reached out from the mist of her past, her answer remained as cold and unyielding as a Panhandle norther.
