A near-future corporate monopoly controls global movement through a wired matter-transmission network that replaces all conventional transport, enabling near instant transfer of goods and people across continents. When resistance movements attempt to disrupt the system, their actions trigger unintended cascading effects that accelerate into partial infrastructure collapse, fragmenting global civilization and dissolving established nation-states.
Ten years later, the world has reformed into unstable regional blocs built around surviving fragments of the network, and a former low-level operative-never central to the original attacks-emerges from isolation into this altered landscape, forced to navigate the consequences of a system he barely influenced and ultimately choosing whether to be absorbed once more into the remnants of the very structure he helped destabilize.
