Flowering Wilderness (1932) by John Galsworthy is a novel about a young woman named Dinny Cherrell who falls in love with Wilfred Desert, a poet returning from the East with a disgraceful secret. Wilfred is accused of turning Muslim under threats of violence, violating strict British societal codes of honor and faith. Wilfred's "conversion" under duress is viewed by society and Dinny's family as cowardly, creating a scandal that tests their love.
