Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions by Edwin A. Abbott is a satirical novella in which a square narrates life in Flatland, a two-dimensional world ruled by rigid geometry and strict social hierarchy. As he explains the customs, class system, and limitations of his plane, he becomes increasingly troubled by the confines of Flatland's "common sense."
