Résumé

Set against the vibrant backdrop of 1990s Zambia-from the close-knit neighbourhood of a Ndola police camp to the life-changing halls of a distant boarding school-Finding My Brothers and Sisters is a deeply moving coming-of-age memoir about identity, acceptance, and the quiet power of belonging. Growing up with albinism, a young boy navigates a world of unspoken questions, watchful glances, and the yearning to fit in alongside his childhood friends.
When quiet adult conversations and a decision at a headmaster's desk alter the course of his youth, he is thrust into an unfamiliar journey. What awaits him is a moment that redefines his entire world: walking into a classroom filled with children who share his exact features, experience, and reflection. Heartfelt, nostalgic, and inspiring, John M. Chiti's memoir captures the delicate nuances of family ties, the ache of leaving home, and the transformative wonder of discovering a community where you are truly seen.
A story for anyone who has ever searched for where they fit in the world.
John Chiti is a Zambian musician, motivational speaker, and advocate for the rights of people living with albinism. He is the founder of the Albinism Foundation of Zambia (AFZ), an organisation dedicated to promoting the welfare, safety, and dignity of people with albinism across the country through education, healthcare support, counselling, and public awareness. Through both his music and his advocacy, John Chiti continues to use his voice - literally and figuratively - to challenge stigma, share hard truths, and offer hope to people navigating some of life's most difficult circumstances.
This book is part of a growing collection of true stories from his life and his work.
