Résumé

Meet the perfect couple. Watch them fall apart. Brid and Mark are on their way to a luxury country hotel to celebrate their engagement. They're the perfect couple: they've been together since high school, when she was the prettiest and richest girl at school, and he was their town's star football player. But, if everything about them is so perfect, why are they so completely and utterly miserable? At first, it's the minor disappointments of hotels.
The décor feels tired, the other guests are tacky, and worst of all - the hot tubs are out of action. Then, it's the sheer pressure to enjoy yourself; the restaurant crowded with couples who look just like you, barely mustering a meal's worth of conversation while facing each other across the table. Then, it's the late-night bender Mark ropes them into with a much older couple, resulting in lines of coke and a dangerous drunk drive to a nearby pub for a lock-in.
And the following day it's a hangover so consuming there is nothing left for either of them to hide behind. That's when things really fall apart. Over the course of one excruciating weekend, we learn who Brid and Mark really are, as teenagers, as students, as adults - and what they are hiding from each other. Tense, darkly funny, and deeply moving and relatable, this is a story of love and longing for our disconnected times.
