Résumé

Etta Jarvis faces a formidable decision, one no wife should ever have to make. Forest fires rage to the north of their lodge on Shad Lake with a safety evacuation order issued. Should Etta take her husband, who suffers from advanced dementia and go to the closest town south, or, should she keep him calm and wait it out? After all, they'd never had to leave before. Early the following morning, while Charlie's in his medicated sleep, Etta packs for the worst case scenario.
Strained and worried, she faints in their bathroom, hitting her head on the sink. When she comes to, she finds herself back at Chester High School, 1967 - a time of mini skirts, hot guys with cool cars, and in her case, the strictures of daily family life on her parent's crop farm. Thrust into memories of long ago, Etta revisits the loves and losses she overcame as a dutiful daughter, a young farm wife and a mature woman.
Throughout this remarkable journey, Etta's indomitable spirit pursues the one dream she was able to keep alive, but at what cost? *************************** Note: This work of fiction explores or touches on various heavy issues in an honest, respectful, and sensitive way.
