Résumé

The country of Ecuador is found in South America and is surrounded on three sides by Colombia, Peru, and the Pacific Ocean. Colombia is located to the north, Peru to the east and south, and the Pacific Ocean to the west.  Ancient indigenous civilizations, the Inca Empire, Spanish colonization, and a war for independence in the 19th century are just a few of the events that have contributed to the country's illustrious and intricate history.  The year 1822 marks the year when Ecuador achieved its independence under the leadership of Simón Bolvar.  Today, the nation is well-known for its diverse wildlife and extraordinary topography, which includes the Andes Mountains, the Amazon Rainforest, and theGalápagos Islands, among other natural wonders.  There are indigenous people, people of European descent, and Afro-Ecuadorians living in Ecuador, and the country has a rich cultural legacy that is commemorated via song, dance, and other forms of art.
