Résumé

When pretty, smart Sara Long is found bludgeoned to death, it's easy to blame the man with the bat. But Georgia Davis -- former cop and newly-minted PI -- is hired to look into the incident at the behest of the accused's sister, and what she finds hints at a much different, much darker answer. It seems the privileged, preppy schoolgirls on Chicago's North Shore have learned just how much their innocence is worth to hot-under-the-collar businessmen.
But while these girls can pay for Prada pricetags, they don't realize that their new business venture may end up costing them more than they can afford. Easy Innocence is a welcome addition to the body of dark, gripping thrillers by authors such as Tess Gerritsen, Karin Slaughter, and Val McDermid. Hellmann brings to life the reality of bullying among teenage girls with enough twists and turns to keep you reading.
Highly recommended. Library Journal, Starred ReviewJust what's needed in a mystery. Depth of characterization sets this new entry by Hellmann (A Shot to Die For, 2005, etc.) apart from a crowded field. Kirkus ReviewsThere's a new no-nonsense female private detective in town: Georgia Davis, a former cop who is tough and smart enough to give even the legendary V. I. Warshawski a run for her money. Chicago TribuneThis was a book I could not put down, reading it cover to cover during the course of one day.
The reader is drawn into the story immediately, and the wonderful writing makes the characters come alive. Midwest Book ReviewHellmann's done her homework here and it shows: the writing is assured, the voices authentic, and the understanding both of criminal investigations and relationships among cops, lawyers and prosecutors come to life with great urgency. Her PI, Georgia Davis, works the affluent suburbs north of Chicago, fertile territory for crime that's lain fallow far too long.
Davis' arrival on the mean streets is long overdue Sara Paretsky, Author of the VI Warshawski Mysteries
Libby Fischer Hellmann left a career in broadcast news in Washington, DC and moved to Chicago 35 years ago, where she, naturally, began to write gritty crime fiction. Twelve novels and twenty short stories later, she claims they'll take her out of the Windy City feet first. She has been nominated for many awards in the mystery and crime writing community and has even won a few. With the addition of Jump Cut in 2016, her novels include the now five-volume Ellie Foreman series, which she describes as a cross between "Desperate Housewives" and "24;" the hard-boiled 4-volume Georgia Davis PI series, and three stand-alone historical thrillers that Libby calls her "Revolution Trilogy." Last fall The Incidental Spy,  a historical novella set during the early years of the Manhattan Project at the U of Chicago was released.
Her short stories have been published in a dozen anthologies, the Saturday Evening Post, and Ed Gorman's "25 Criminally Good Short Stories" collection.  In 2005 Libby was the national president of Sisters In Crime, a 3500 member organization dedicated to the advancement of female crime fiction authors.
