Deep in the Sierra Madre Mountains of Mexico, Xavier has learned to live alone. Four days without seeing another human doesn't bother him. The mountains provide food, shelter, and solitude. Then the rain comes. Seeking refuge inside a massive cave, Xavier discovers something impossible: human remains covered in webs, strange markings on the walls, and a darkness that seems to go much deeper than the cave itself.
Then the spiders come. And something enormous starts talking to him. Nanci has lived in the cave for generations. She is a gigantic spider with a taste for human flesh, a collection of ancient gold artifacts, and no reason to let Xavier leave alive. His Zippo is running out of fuel. His knife is out of reach.
