Résumé

Dombey and Son is an English novel by Charles Dickens (1812-1870), published in London in nineteen soap operas from October 1846 to April 1848 by The Graphic Magazine, and in a single volume by Bradbury And Evans in 1848. The novel first appeared under its full title, Dealings with the Firm of Dombey and Son: Wholesale, Retail and for Export Dombey and Son. It was illustrated, according to very precise indications of Dickens, by the draftsman Hablot Knight Browne. With this seventh novel, Dickens crowns the first phase of his creative work, which, according to criticism, has reached its maturity.
As such, it represents a "watershed novel", announcing "the more mature and artistically more satisfactory works, " 1 with a perfect match between, on the one hand, his perception of the social tensions of the epoch And its moral significance and, on the other, the coherence of its structure and the relevance of its symbolic network.
