Das Reformationsjubiläum 2017 ist auch für die Regionen Deutschlands wichtig, in denen die Reformation erst später begann. Das gilt z. B. für die Mark Brandenburg, wo die Reformation erst in der zweiten Hälfte der 1530er Jahre offiziell eingeführt wurde, wo aber schon in den 1520er Jahren eine evangelische Erneuerung an der kirchlichen Basis begann. Die Auslöser für die Reformation - Luthers 95 Thesen und der Ablassstreit - haben mit der Machtpolitik der brandenburgischen Hohenzollern zu tun.
Die illustrierte Darstellung von Andreas Stegmann gibt einen auf wissenschaftlicher Forschung basierenden und für ein breiteres Publikum bestimmten monographischen Überblick über die märkische Reformationsgeschichte unter Berücksichtigung ihrer spätmittelalterlichen Vor- und ihrer frühneuzeitlichen Nachgeschichte.
