Die Gemeindegliederzahlen sinken in allen Landeskirchen der EKD dramatisch. Die meisten gehen davon aus, dass die Kirchensteuern ihnen irgendwann folgen werden. Offen bleibt einzig, wann der Zeitpunkt eintritt. Die Prognosen dieser Entwicklung reichen zurück bis vor die Jahrtausendwende. 2004 beschloss der Kirchenkreis Wittstock-Ruppin, sie ernst zu nehmen. Er entwickelte eine Reform, die bei Anerkennung der Notwendigkeit größerer Einheiten Selbstgestaltungsmöglichkeiten in den Dörfern und kleineren Einheiten ermöglichte.
Nach einem vierjährigen Diskussions- und Entwicklungsprozess setzten Kreis- und Landessynode sie in Kraft. Die Veröffentlichung beschreibt die Reform, Problemlagen sowie offene Fragen und reflektiert Notwendigkeiten kirchlichen Handelns heute. [The Church Remains in the Village. The Reform of Church Districts in Wittstock-Ruppin] There is a dramatic decrease in congregation membership in all regional churches of the EKD.
Most people think that the church taxes will follow this trend some time. Only the exact time is uncertain. This development has been anticipated already at the end of the last century. In 2004, the church district Wittstock-Ruppin decided to take it seriously. It developed a reform which empowers the villages and smaller units to self-organization, while accepting at the same time the need for greater units.
After a process of discussion and development of four years the synods of the church district and the regional church implemented the reform. This publication describes the reform, problem areas, and open questions and reflects on the necessities of ecclesial action today.
