Résumé

Reggie isn't really a romantic: she's been hurt too often, and doesn't let people in as a rule. Plus, when you're dealing with the Three Stages of Depression, it's hard to feel warm and fuzzy. When Reggie meets Snake, though, he doesn't give her much of a choice. Snake has a neck tattoo, a Twizzler habit, and a fair share of arrogance, but he's funny, charming, and interested in Reggie. Snake also has an ex-girlfriend who's seven months pregnant.
Good thing Reggie isn't a romantic. Definitions of Indefinable Things follows three teens as they struggle to comprehend love, friendship, and depression-and realize one definition doesn't always cover it. He has a pregnant ex-girlfriend. She has clinical depression. And their first date is on top of a garbage dump. Dark Humor: Reggie's internal monologue (see: sarcastic definitions for everything) is as sharp as it is hilarious, finding the absurdity in therapy, antidepressants, and high school.
Forced Proximity: Stuck together during shifts at Oinky's Ice Cream, Reggie and Snake trade insults and confessions over a broken soft-serve machine. Complicated Romance: He's trying to be there for his pregnant ex, Carla. She's trying not to feel anything for anyone. Neither of them is succeeding. Raw and Emotional: A powerful and authentic look at teen mental health, exploring the messy, nonlinear reality of living with depression and finding reasons to keep going.
