Résumé

War has raged for a hundred years in the land of Deerland/Megaloceros, pitting witches against non-witches. Joshua Sans always believed the conflict would end eventually, but he never imagined it would be in the form of a nuclear apocalypse. Left alone in the ashes, Josh is now an endling. The last known survivor of his species. His husband is dead. His brother is dead. Every non-witch is dead. But then, he meets Micah, a young witch who claims they can turn back time and undo the destruction.
To save the world, Josh must travel into the past, trusting one of the very people he was raised to hate. If she's telling the truth, he could prevent the war's catastrophic end and save the family he lost. If she's lying, he may hand victory to the empire that enslaved his people. As old certainties crumble and the lines between enemy and ally begin to blur, Josh must decide what matters more: winning a war or building a future where no one has to fight it.
Ashes of the Stag: Decay is the first book in a gripping science-fantasy series filled with themes of war, oppression, found family, and the radical power of hope. If you loved The Poppy War and The City We Became, you won't want to miss this.
