Dead Numbers

When Berlin financial crimes investigator Jonas Falk is dispatched to audit a sleepy rural bank, he expects nothing more than a clumsy embezzlement case. Instead, he stumbles upon a secret ledger, years of identical cash withdrawals, precisely timed and routed through shell companies stretching across Germany, Switzerland, and the Baltic states. Within days, the branch manager is dead, an apparent suicide.
A whistleblowing journalist who calls Falk offering evidence disappears the same night. As Falk follows the money, the path leads to an untouchable inner circle of politicians, corporate magnates, and senior police officers running an international smuggling and contract-killing empire under the guise of legitimate business. Now marked for elimination and unsure who in his own department he can trust, Falk must choose: walk away and live with the guilt, or push forward knowing each step brings him and those he loves closer to becoming the next name in the ledger of death.
