Durch die Entwicklungen der modernen Medizin und Biotechnologie werden lange Zeit vorhandene Gewissheiten darüber, was die Begriffe "Krankheit" und "Gesundheit" bedeuten, zunehmend in Frage gestellt. Zugleich nehmen diese Begriffe in den verschiedensten medizinethischen Kontexten wie etwa der Debatte um das "Enhancement" immer stärker die Funktion von normativen Begriffen ein, die legitime von illegitimen Handlungen trennen.
Der Band vereinigt vor diesem Hintergrund in Beiträgen renommierter Autoren die wissenschaftstheoretische Kontroverse mit der praktisch-ethischen Reflexion über die normativen Folgen des Verständnisses von Krankheit und Gesundheit. New developments in modern medicine and biotechnology put long time certitudes about the meaning of "health" and "illness" more and more into question.
