Résumé
What could possibly go wrong in a cornfield filled, unimpressive little Ohio college town? During the day everything seems normal, its business as usual. What the residents of the unassuming Pinefield do not know is that dark things are secretly lurking in the night. Their forces are growing and the soon-to-be victims are none the wiser. Justin Sanders, a Jr. High student, watches as his father is abducted by mysterious black-eyed men.
He is rushed by his father's work associate from his home in New Hampshire to his grandparents' house in Pinefield, Ohio. Justin grows closer to his oddball cousin Eli, and quickly forms a deep friendship with two local fourth graders. At school he makes more friends and some enemies as well. Over the coming months Justin becomes more unnerved as he catches a glimpse of a large creature flying around in the middle of the night, but who would believe him? Residents keep disappearing and when one of his friends is abducted by the black-eyed people, Justin swiftly moves to action with the aid of an elderly school administrator Reverend Greese.
