Dances With Trailers

When Joe Jackson turned up for her interview as a heavy haulage driver for Northern Freight Company, she was wearing a skirt. The Transport Manager Zachary Roberts laughed at her, but Joe had taken a lot from men who believed a woman was better suited for the office, rather than the cab of a semi. Demanding he give her the mandatory drivers test, she was not surprised to see the smirk on his face.
He gave her a set of keys, a list of number pertaining to trailers and dollies and gave her the instructions, three times around the perimeter in less than one hour. Well, she would show him! It didn't take her long to connect her road train, nor did it take her any time at all to complete the circuit. But to prove a point, she did a fourth lap around the perimeter in reverse, before parking her trailers back where she found them.
When she returned the keys to the managers office less than an hour later, she called him a few choice names and walked out. Owner of the Company Tobias North was on his way to the office when he was waylaid by one of his Semi's completing a circuit around the yard in reverse. He watched and listened to the driver of the truck as she completed her task and followed her back to the office in time to hear her give his Transport Manager a few terse words before walking out.
Less than an hour later, it was Tobias North's Secretary who rang Joe to inform her, she got the job!She left the next day and six months later Joe Jackson finally pulled her fully loaded semi back into the unloading bay. Keen to get back on the road, Joe stays just long enough to see both of the special men in her life before heading off through outback Queensland and the Northern Territory visiting friends and forming new relationships.
One of these encounters will impact Joe more than she realises, but will it be enough to make 'Never come home Joe', as she had been fondly named by the office girls, come home for good?
