When Nola Martinez wins the national pageant crown by declaring she wants to be a fashion designer instead of giving the expected answer, she ignites a war between two worlds. Stripped of pageant appearances and rejected by the fashion industry, she trains in Paris and Milan, returns to New York broke, and builds her label from a kitchen table. But when the opportunity arrives to design a Met Gala gown for actress Sophia Bellini, Nola must choose: compromise her ethics to succeed, or risk everything to prove that beauty and integrity can exist in the same dress.
