Creating a maths wizard using a chess set is not meant to teach parents and children how to play chess - there is an abundance of available books and videos designed to teach people how to play the great game! As a parent, teaching your child how to play chess does them a huge favour as it is a whole brain activity which develops mental, emotional and social intelligence. Rather, the purpose of this book is to provide parents of pre- and primary school children with specific ideas on how to use a chessboard and chess pieces to develop their mathematical thinking skills.
