Résumé

This book highlights some of women's resistance in colonial Africa. It tells the stories of different women across the continent who found themselves living during colonialism in a wounded Africa. They rose and fought for the freedom of their people and the continent. Europeans started colonising Africa in the mid-1800s and continued doing so for decades. The colonisers, unfortunately, didn't recognise the important role African women played in their societies.
They attempted to impose their own gender roles on these complex societies. This disrupted the existing roles women held in society and contributed to their resistance against colonial rule. African women were involved in various parts of society, such as agriculture, the market, and the home. Some resisted the unfamiliar economic and political policies and their prescribed social space by engaging in various forms of resistance across different regions of Africa.
