2003 erhielt Wilfried Kriese den Ehrendoktortitel Dr. h. c. verliehen. Es ist im deutschsprachigen Raum und wahrscheinlich auch in Europa einmalig, dass jemand mit einer Biografie, wie sie Wilfried Kriese vorweist, solch eine Ehrung erhält.
