Résumé

We're part of the cover-up!Did you know that there is a secret government agency dedicated to creating conspiracy theories? It's true! It's on Facebook! But it's not in this book. Our conspiracy theories are all fiction. At least, that's what we want you to think! Certainly, we did invite fiction writers to weigh in on conspiracy theories. The result includes (of course) the Masons and dragons (David Clements), the Bavarian Illuminati (Debra Doyle and James D.
Macdonald) and the New World Order Shariann Lewitt). There's also the Shaver Mystery (science writer Jeff Hecht), cell phones and weather control (Rev DiCerto), Atlantis and Lemuria (Paul DiFilippo), Roswell (H. Paul Shuch of SETI fame), mermaids (Cat Rambo and Mike Resnick), ancient immortals who guide our breeding (Steven Popkes), quality management (Allen Steele), and-of all things!-Santa Claus (James Cambias).
Not to mention the squirrels (Sarah Smith).
Jeff Hecht writes about science and technology, particularly topics related to lasers and dinosaurs. He is a correspondent for New Scientist magazine, a contributing editor for Laser Focus World, and regularly writes for other magazines including Optics & Photonics News and IEEE Spectrum. He has written 11 books, including Understanding Fiber Optics, Understanding Lasers, City of Light: The Story of Fiber Optics, Beam Weapons, The Laser Guidebook, Optics:Light For a New Age, and Beam: the Race to Make the Laser. Dr.
Debra Doyle and James D. Macdonald have written over 30 novels. These novels span science fiction, fantasy, horror, young adult, and techno-thrillers. Dr. Debra Doyle attended University of Pennsylvania, where she received a PhD in English. She was expert in field-stripping semniotic weapons and disarming plot bombs. James D. Macdonald attended the University of Rochester, where he learned that a degree in Medieval Studies wouldn't fit him for anything.
He went off to sea "to forget, " though he's forgotten exactly what. As an enlisted Boatswain's Mate in the Navy, and later as an officer, he saw the world, and discovered that three quarters of it was water. Together they were nominated for the James Tiptree, Jr. Award and received the Mythopoeic Fantasy Award for Children's Literature in 1992. They were founding instructors of the Viable Paradise Writers Workshop.
For thirty years they lived in a big 19th-Century house in Colebrook, New Hampshire, where they learned to drink Moxie and collaborate in writing science fiction and fantasy for children, teenagers, and adults. Following the passing of Dr. Doyle in October of 2020, new Debra Doyle Memorial Editions of their backlist, with new covers, updated formatting, special memorial pages, and all-new essays written by Jim specifically for these editions are being created.
Jim intends to release them over the coming years in her memory. James D. Macdonald is represented by Russell Galen of Scovil Galen Ghosh Literary Agency, Inc. As Munngralla says in The Price of the Stars, "It's all for sale." Cat Rambo writes and teaches in the Pacific Northwest. Among the places her work has appeared are Asimov's, Weird Tales, and Tor.com.
