Résumé

Clunk by Pete MinallWhat do a heart attack, a forklift, and a caped crusader have in common? They all feature in this riotous romp through a life spent in the wings, lighting the stage, and behind and in front of the camera. This is a backstage pass to the unpredictable world of theatre, television, and rock 'n' roll, told with wit and a storyteller's charm. I've spent most of my career either behind a camera or up a ladder with a shifter in one hand and mild panic in the other.
This curious path has led me to work with some rather famous people - from sharing chats with iconic legends to dodging disasters in pantomime, each chapter is bursting with character and colour. You'll meet Led Zeppelin, Joan Collins, The Who, Spike Milligan, and Charlton Heston along the way. You'll survive Frome festivals, rogue producers, and the occasional goat. I mention these names not to impress; frankly, I'm more impressed that I once fixed a broken dimmer rack with gaffer tape and hope.
These people were just part of my job: colleagues, collaborators, and occasional sources of mayhem. Whether you're a theatre buff, a music lover, or just someone who enjoys a good yarn, this book delivers laughs, gasps, and moments of unexpected poignancy. It's a celebration of the messy, magical, and utterly unpredictable world behind the curtainSo pull up a chair, pour a drink, and prepare to meet the best, the brilliant and she who can not be named!
Pete lives in Cornwall with his lovely partner Gabrielle. He adores board games, history, photography, and theatre, and has been incredibly fortunate to have earned his living working in each of those fields. Over the decades, he has travelled the world and made many friends in various countries, enjoying meeting up with them. He has written a book of his travels across Africa in the mid 1980's called "The Long Haul".
His favourite career was as a Lighting Designer in British theatre, and he has written a book of theatrical and rock and roll anecdotes called "Clunk". Now in retirement, he has discovered two further careers, as a writer of mainly Historical fiction and working in TV and Film as a Supporting Artist. He is truly blessed with four wonderful step-daughters who are a constant source of joy. If you're looking to join (or just explore) the Sealed Knot, visit the main organisation's official website.
Just Google it. From there, you can: Find local regiments (including those portraying units like James Carr). See upcoming battles and living history events. Learn how to join as a soldier, civilian, or supporter. Get contact details for recruitment officers. Most regiments - like those representing Carr's Regiment-operate as part of this wider organisation, so joining usually starts through the main Sealed Knot site and then branching off into a specific unit.
