Do the lessons of the past save or damn us? When celebrity painter Emery Lake loses his wife and muse of twenty years, he slowly gives up on life. Then his grown daughter drags him to the south of France where his impressionist heroes once walked and painted. Renoir, Picasso, Cézanne, and Van Gogh all spent time here, painting the rocks, the olive trees, the women. It's a last ditch effort to make Emery care about something. But when he starts talking with, walking and painting with his long dead heroes and a new romantic interest, his worlds collide in terrifying ways and Emery must find his way through them before he loses the love he still has. An intense story of loss, grief, parenting, and the healing power of art.
