Carter: Before the Selection is a companion novella to NovaSeed: Eden Rising. It is narrated in part by SOLEN - the mission AI - who had 847 pages of Carter's file, had run 340, 000 simulations of his decision-making, and still could not find the answer to the only question that mattered: why he said yes. SOLEN is still working on that.
