Résumé
Two moving and life-changing storiesWanjiru slaves in her real estate career determined to make a good living. She attends meetings and seminars and travels the world. But with all that going for her, she doesn't feel connected or any sense of belonging. One day, she goes into the library to cool her sun-bitten body. While she flips pages in a book, she overhears two women talk about The Friends of the Library.
Ignorant about the term, but always a library fan, she gets intrigued. She finds out about the group at the checkout counter and attends her first meeting. In time, she gets immersed in The Friends' activities. Stakes rise when members appoint her as their president. In months, members plan a fundraiser that thrusts Wanjiru out of her comfort zone. Unknown to her, the hair-pulling preparation for that fundraiser becomes a turning point when new unseen forces catapult her to a writing career.* * *By the next story, all this work and activities and no play have turned Wanjiru into an overworked, dull woman.
With no preparation, she embarks on a mission in search of relief on foreign lands, Greece among them. In Beyond Conscious Self, everything works as expected until Wanjiru makes one reckless choice that jeopardizes her life like others before her. But there is no going back; she has to press on. After all, in this part of the world, she's the only one she's got. Soon she gives up on fight or flight and begs for a miracle.
When you are all alone, there is nothing scarier than a state of total helplessness.
