Résumé

Public awareness of the topic of dementia is steadily increasing. In various countries, including Germany, national strategies have been developed to improve the quality of care for people with dementia and to focus on their social milieu. Supervising and caring for people with dementia requires not only professional competence but also tremendous openness and sensitivity in order to ensure a good quality of life and self-determination up to the end of life.
As long as 25 years ago, the Swedish foundation ?Silviahemmet= started efforts to make the best possible quality of life available for all those affected, further developing care and support for people with dementia, and easing the burden on relatives by providing palliative care. This approach has been successfully established in Sweden and other countries, including Germany. Against this background, the book provides comprehensive, practical medical and nursing information on the subject of dementia and uses practical examples to show how to succeed in caring for people with dementia, in both outpatient and in-patient settings.
