Résumé

"Become a Humanitarian Manager" is a practical and inspiring guide for professionals seeking to become effective leaders in the humanitarian sector. Designed for aspiring managers, field coordinators, and NGO leaders, it explores the unique challenges of managing teams, resources, and operations in crisis-affected environments. Blending strategic management principles with humanitarian values, it offers tools for ethical decision-making and intercultural leadership.
Jörg Fehr was born in 1950 and spent his childhood in a small village in Switzerland. Following in his father's footsteps, he completed an apprenticeship as a bricklayer. After finishing basic military training, Jörg signed up as a volunteer missionary and traveled to Africa for a year. While in Cameroon, he worked as a construction specialist on various building projects. There he met his future wife, Edith Brunner.
After returning to Switzerland, they married and started a family. Soon, the young family left Switzerland and traveled back to Africa, where they lived and worked in five different countries for thirteen years total. To provide their children with an education, they returned to Switzerland permanently in 1988. Initially, Jörg worked as a planner in an engineering office. After a few years, however, he was called to become the managing director of the Swiss national office of the aid organization ADRA.
Five years later, he became regional director, coordinating the humanitarian work of 21 national offices in Africa, Europe, and parts of the Middle East. Since retiring in 2015, Jörg has volunteered in a social project in Thurgau and served on the boards of ADRA Switzerland and ADRA Europe. He spends his free time cycling when the weather is nice and writing when it is not. While traveling to various countries, he has discovered many good, traditional dishes.
He enjoys cooking these dishes for his family and guests.
