Barely Prepared

Barely Prepared is a literary satire about a body-acceptance retreat that was supposed to last one weekend. Then the cameras start rolling. At Bare Truth Retreat, three women arrive carrying more than overnight bags. Maggie is a widow trying to decide whether the life she has left still belongs to her. Dee is angry, guarded, and tired of pretending that confidence costs nothing. June is young, scared, and looking for permission to exist in her own skin without apology.
What begins as a carefully planned nude retreat slowly turns into something messier, funnier, sharper, and far more exposed than anyone expected. Organizers argue over optics. Participants clash over shame, grief, gender, race, age, and the strange politics of being seen. A documentary crew captures everything, including the moments no one meant to say out loud. Told through raw footage, confessionals, interviews, and behind-the-scenes fragments, Barely Prepared is not a story about perfect healing.
It is about people showing up before they are ready, saying too much, hiding badly, and discovering that acceptance is rarely peaceful. Sometimes the body is the least naked thing in the room.
