Résumé

This handbook has been put together to empower over-50s B. A. M. E professionals to re-enter, reposition, or reinvent themselves in today's labour market with confidence, clarity, and dignity. I  believe experience is not a limitation - it is leadership refined by time.  This handbook and accompanying workbook will help you to uncover and develop these skills and let employers know about them. Your experience is your advantage.
The book is a bridge between experience and future opportunity; between self-doubt and renewed confidence; between exclusion and participation. It invites readers to see themselves not as outdated, but as seasoned. Not as behind, but as equipped. Experience matters. Perspective matters. Cultural intelligence matters. Emotional maturity matters. The modern workforce needs not only innovation, but wisdom.
Back to Work: Employability Skills Training Handbook and  Practical Employability Workbook for Over-50s B. A. M. E emerged from a pilot employability programme delivered to long-term unemployed Black and minority ethnic adults over fifty for a London Borough. The programme addressed complex and overlapping barriers - age discrimination, racial inequality, technological change, confidence loss, and health-related challenges - through coaching, mentoring, digital skills development, and employer engagement.
Its purpose was clear: to equip participants to re-enter sustainable employment with resilience and renewed professional identity. This handbook and workbook build on that work. It is practical, structured, and empowering. It is not simply about getting a job - it is about reclaiming professional identity and building sustainable pathways forward. One central message runs throughout: your decades of work and life experience are not baggage - they are capital.
