Tom Wolfe est un américain. Il est à la fois un romancier, un journaliste et un essayiste. Né le 2 mars 1931 à Richmond en Virginie (États-Unis), il passe ses années d’étudiant en lettres à Yale. En 1957, il commence sa carrière de journaliste au Washington Post puis au New York Herald Tribune. Ces premiers écrits « l’étoffe des héros » et « le gauchisme » lui ont permis d’être connu du grand public.
Bien que journaliste, la vie de romancier de Tom Wolfe débute dans les années 1980. En effet, il publie en 1987 son premier roman intitulé « le Bucher des vanités ». Cette belle œuvre fut un succès mondial avec plus de 800 000 exemplaires vendus aux États-Unis. Après cet exploit, Tom Wolfe va continuer sur cette voie en publiant d’autres œuvres dont « Bloody Miami » et « un homme, un vrai ».
Publié en 2013, « Bloody Miami » est le quatrième roman de Tom Wolfe. C’est l’histoire d’un jeune policier cubain nommé Nestor Camacho. Ce dernier a arrêté un de ses compatriotes qui cherchait refuge à Miami. Pour cela, Nestor est considéré comme un traître et devient une honte pour sa famille et son quartier. Il s’en suit un véritable clash entre cubains et les autres communautés de la ville de Miami. Est-ce que Camacho va pouvoir restaurer l’ordre et la paix entre tous ?
L’ouvrage « Un homme, un vrai » est paru en 1998. Dans ce livre, Tom parle de Charlie Croker. Ce colosse entrepreneur de race blanche doit faire face à de nombreuses difficultés. Il y dépeint aussi les tensions entre les différentes races.
