Résumé
The Amtrak Police Department (APD) is a federal law enforcement agency that provides security and law enforcement services for Amtrak, the national passenger train system in the United States.
The Amtrak Police Department is responsible for the safety and security of Amtrak passengers, employees, and infrastructure across the country. The APD has primary jurisdiction over Amtrak stations, trains, rights-of-way, and maintenance facilities.
They also have jurisdiction over crimes committed against Amtrak, its employees, or its passengers. APD officers patrol stations, trains, and facilities, enforce laws, conduct investigations, and provide support at events. They also work with other agencies, such as local law enforcement, and participate in joint operations and training exercises. The APD has over 500 sworn and civilian personnel at over 30 locations across 46 states, the District of Columbia, and three Canadian provinces.
The APD has specialized units like the Special Operations Unit, which conducts station surges, baggage screening, and counter-surveillance operations. They also have a robust K-9 program and a National Communications Center for dispatch and incident response. The APD collaborates with other law enforcement agencies, emergency responders, and other Amtrak stakeholders through programs like Operation RAILSAFE to enhance safety and security.
