Résumé

River just appeared in this world without a memory of who he was or where he came from before. This world is not meant for humans and is the last leg of a soul's journey before it reaches the end. Nothing lives in this world except for a being River names Apollo. Apollo appears human except for the deer antlers on his head, his cloven feet, and the light that emanates from him. He is the guide of this world, guiding human souls on their journey to the end, where they may reunite with their loved ones and rest.
The human souls travel down what appears to be a never-ending river, and River and Apollo walk along it together. River has no idea what his purpose is here, but he's sure it has to do with Apollo. Apollo, on the other hand, is sure he is meant to guide River to the end, too, just like every other soul since he appeared in this world. But River is unlike any soul that has ever come before Apollo. One believes they are meant to be together on this journey.
The other assumes this journey is just a means to an inevitable end. In a world where all things are meant to end, does that include River and Apollo?
