In the mountainous parish of Mount Karmal stands Our Lady of Nazareth Orthodox Church. It is a unique rendition of Axum's Mary of Sion. Our Lady was founded by the son of an Episcopal minister, Theodus Percival Greene. To his adherents, Greene is known as the pious Abba Kristos, having undergone the sacrament of Chrismation in Ethiopia. During his final excursion to Africa, Kristos finds his successor.
He betroths the young Habesha noble to his only daughter, Rose. Aaron Makonnen is now the present Abba of Our Lady. His marriage to Rose comes to a crossroads when she is smitten by the handsome "adoptive" son of Abuna Haymanoth, the Metropolitan of Mount Karmal and Greene's closest friend. Priests of the Eastern rite are forbidden to divorce or remarry. Will love be enough for Makonnen to salvage his relationship with Rose?
